NOTICE OF RACE
1.1 The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing.
1.2 Rule V1, Penalty at the Time of an Incident, will apply.
1.3 Appendix T will apply as changed below:
At the end of T4, Arbitration Meeting Outcomes, add: (c) If a protest is not withdrawn after arbitration, the arbitrator will not be a member of the jury that hears that protest but will be permitted to observe the testimony presented and offer evidence. This changes rule 63.3(a).
The regatta is open to S-Class sailing yachts originally manufactured by the Herreshoff Manufacturing Company or George Lawley & Son.
3.1 Eligible boats may enter by completing the online entry at S Class 100th.
3.2 The entry fee is $350.00 per boat. Entries along with payment must be submitted no later than July 31st, 2019 or be subject to a late fee of $50.00. The entry fee includes racing, dockage for visiting yachts, and awards party and reception at Sail Newport on August 18th.
3.3 Tickets for dinner on August 17th can be purchased through the regatta website at a price to be determined.
4 QUALIFYING SERIES
This regatta is the second qualifying part of the three-part S-Class Centennial Series celebrating the 100th anniversary of first Herreshoff S-Boat in manufacture.
5.1 Regatta Schedule is as follows:
Friday August 16 1700-2000 Check-in at Sail Newport (Offsite party TBD)
Saturday August 17 1155 1st Warning
1830 Dinner party at Sail Newport
Sunday August 18 1155 1st Warning
1430 No warning signal after this time
5.2 The race committee intends to run multiple races each day.
6 SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
Sailing instructions will be available through our landing page S Class 100th, no later than 1800 Thursday, August 15th, and at Sail Newport during registration.
The starting area will be in the waters to the North of the Newport-Pell Bridge in Potter Cove.
Courses will be windward-leeward with a leeward gate.
9.1 One completed race constitutes a series.
9.2 If fewer than five races are completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores. If five or more races are completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score.
10.1 Event prizes will be awarded following the completion of racing on August 18th, 2019.
10.2 Prizes will be awarded for first through fifth place finishes on the Brooke E. Gonzalez East Deck at Sail Newport.
11.1 Guest dockage will be provided to visiting racing yachts participating in the regatta. Please email Nick Mauprivez at Nick.Mauprivez@sailnewport.org to coordinate your dockage space for the event.
12 DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY
By registering for this event, the owner and person-in-charge of the boat agree with the following:
My crew and I recognize that sailing is an activity that has an inherent risk of damage and injury associated with it. We have read rule 4, Decision to Race, and hereby acknowledge and agree that we are participating in this event entirely at our own risk.
I acknowledge and agree that neither the organizing authority nor the race committee, nor their members will be responsible for:
a) any damage to the entered boat or my other property, or
b) any injury to my crew or me, including death, sustained as a result of our participation in this event.
I hereby waive any rights I may have to sue the race organizers (organizing authority, race committee, protest committee, host club, sponsors or any other organization or official) with respect to personal injury or property damage suffered by my crew or me as a result of our participation in this event, whether on the water or on shore, and hereby release the race organizers from any liability for such injury or damage to the fullest extent permitted by law.
I have taken all necessary steps to ensure that my crew and I and my entered boat are adequately prepared for all possible contingencies, including carrying and using appropriate safety equipment as may be required by law, racing rules and that a prudent seaman would consider advisable.
I agree to be bound by all rules that govern this event. I will inform all crewmembers of the conditions stated herein for their participation in such racing.
